Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery
Few things cause as much damage to individual lives and families as addiction to substances such as drugs, alcohol, and food or addictive behaviors such as as gambling, shopping, sex, video games and internet surfing.
What's startling is that addiction, including to hard drugs such as heroin, defies the stereotypes and affects people across all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Recent epidemics of heroin abuse in affluent suburbs have shown that none of us are immune to this modern plague.
According to the neurosciences, Mother Nature has gifted us with habit-forming biological programming that both allows us to become highly functional individuals and, on the flip side, makes us susceptible to the formation of bad habits that become addictions.
Here's the habit loop explained by the Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
We know that addiction doesn't just affect the individual, but hurts the whole family. Relationships become strained, conflicts ensue, trust is lost. The financial and legal damage is also a common effect of addiction. Sadly, sobriety doesn't guarantee instant betterment. In fact, many families say that early sobriety can be more challenging than active addiction.
Repairing family relationships, trust, and respect takes time, patience and support. We are here to help you heal and feel better! Reach out to us when you are ready by e-mail info@manhattanmft.com or phone 917-510-6422. Until then, please peruse the recovery resources below.
