Clinical Supervision

Rita Garcia, LMFT
Garcia Marriage and Family Therapist

My role as a supervisor is to help emerging therapists understand their own approach in working with clients.  This includes exploring the modality of therapy you identify with, learning strategies so you don't feel stuck in cases, and providing support for ethical dilemmas or mandatory reporting issues.  I am a professional member with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists that is eligible to provide supervision to pre-licensed and licensed clinicians seeking case consultation as they grow their own professional identity.  As a clinical supervisor I incorporate many of the same principles that I use in my clinical practice.  My approach is collaborative, I believe you have your own expertise from your experiences and knowledge of your cases that is valid to our discussions.

As a certified sex therapist I bring a different perspective to relational therapy, like how sex therapy can be integrated into couples therapy and how it can be included when analyzing family history and genograms.

I will provide an environment that is without judgement, empathetic and will praise the unique qualities you bring to your therapeutic identity.  I especially want to be available to Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) supervisees that are having difficulty finding an MFT supervisor.

Clinical Supervisor
Therapeutic Specialties:

Multicultural families and couples, parental relationships with adolescents, relationship wellness, premarital counseling

Therapeutic Approach:

I believe that we exist in this world in an interconnected fashion which creates and sustains dominant themes that govern our interactions, beliefs, assumptions, and perceptions of ourselves and others. I seek to collaborate with clients in journeying through the process of re-storying those themes in an effort to strengthen, elevate, and promote self-compassion, growth in relationships, and evolving awareness. I also pursue a culturally humble approach to therapy recognizing that each individual is a collection of context and culture that is welcomed and encouraged in the therapeutic environment.

My proudest accomplishments as therapist:

Collaborating with a client to increase esteem and value in such a way that promotes growth in all areas of life.

What inspired me to become a therapist...

I consider myself a “wounded healer”.  My experiences shape my perspective and are a connective juncture with others. I live to give what I have received.
