Spring has sprung

4/8/2015

This time of year I always get excited about Spring…new buds in my garden, suddenly trees look green, the snow finally melts.

This winter has been particularly difficult, so I’m glad to see that Spring is coming. It’s the time of year for renewal… I begin to feel really positive. Happy to walk from the train without boots. Delighted to smell the excitement of newness.

As you think about spring, why not try some of these tips? They’re good for you and also pay it forward.

  1.  Clean closets. Discard old sheets, towels, clothes you did not wear last season. This gives you less clutter and room for new things to freshen your wardrobe. What to do with all the extras?  Reach out to Big Brothers Big Sisters at pickup@bbbsnyc.org for a truck to come buy and pick up your extras.  Get your friends and kids involved too! Also, check out ThredUp.com, a site where you can sell your clothes online.
  2.  Wash and store the winter “stuff.” Bite the bullet now to get sweaters cleaned. Store everything in a clean, dry place. Don’t forget to clean up your old boot trays or baskets. Anything that does not fit or is to0 old can be put with the outflow.
  3.  Start thinking about your garden.  A garden – wild? English? Windbox? Indoors? Think creatively. A herb garden where kids can reach helps your cooking and lets children see new growth. Flowers from gardens make lovely gifts for neighbors, grandparents or teachers. Or even as a special splash on your dinner table.
