Depression hurts!  It’s hard to understand if you’ve never experienced it and well-meaning advice like “just snap out of it,” “do something you like,” “take medication, go to therapy,” “it will pass,” “think about something else” may do more harm than good.  Although these thoughts come with good intentions, they land more as judgments and condemnation when you are feeling depressed and struggling with motivation, focus, and action-taking.
